Patti Stanger tried to clarify her anti-gay comments in an appearance that will air Tuesday, but didn’t change her point of view.
Referring to Los Angeles, he told Behar, “Whether you are straight or gay, that is a player town the gays in Los Angeles [it's] what is going on in my show, which [has shot] from Los Angeles for the past years. I have put gay dating on the map. There was no Logo then, no H8 campaign. I am an advocate for gay marriage. I have more gay friends than Carter has pills.”
He then recalled a conversation along with her mate, designer Marc Bouwer, who he says told her, “Patti, this is what it is like around the country. This is the gay community!” Stanger’s response, “I’m trying to curb them!” he told Behar — which is similar to the same comment that got her in trouble on Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live, which airs on Bravo, the same network as her reality show, Millionaire Matchmaker.
Stanger then went on. “This is not the lesbian. They get involved, move in together. They are calm, they are at peace.”
Behar then told her he “went wrong” by making a sweeping statement.
“But the gay man,” he went on, “they whip it out at eye lock! They get involved, & then find out later whether or not they require a serious relationship. & I hope they use the privilege in New York for gay marriage because they have it. Lots of gays are not getting married!”
Bravo apologized for Stanger’s comments on Monday.
Stanger replied, “I apologize if GLAAD was offended. I was one time the first person for gay marriage. I put it on the map, on television, where every network fought me, & I am still there in the trenches.”
Stanger also released a statement: “I am so sorry. I did not mean to offend someone with my comments last night on Watch What Happens Live.
Bravo regrets the comments expressed by Patti Stanger on Watch What Happens Live last night, a network spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter. Her comments are not representative of the networks beliefs & opinions. They apologize for the offense it caused.
He’s yet to address her comment that “Jewish men lie.”
Some viewers called for Stanger to be fired after declaring gay people cannot be monogamous & saying, “I have tried to curb ‘you people.’” He then complimented a who called in to the show by telling him he wasn’t “queen-y.”
